Heroism on Holiday: The Unlikely Saviors in Hainan On July 20th, Fan Kaiyue, a 28 year old civil policeman from Jiangsu province, and his wife Gu Jianing, a social worker, risked their own lives to save a family of five whose car was perilously perched on the edge of a steep slope.
The couple's actions have earned widespread praise within China and abroad.
Fan Kaiyue, still on his honeymoon with Gu Jianing, had been driving along the mountainous highway when they came across the crashed car spewing smoke and filled with terrified children.
